This website is operated by David E. Temple through 82 Mercer, Inc., a California S-Corporation ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what information we collect at davidetemple.com, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
The short version: we collect an email address only if you hand us one, we use it to send you news about books and projects, we don't sell it to anyone, and you can leave at any time with one click.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Email address — when you subscribe to the newsletter, request a launch notification, or contact us.
- Name — optional, when you provide it on a signup or contact form.
- Message content — whatever you write to us through the contact form.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our host records standard technical data when you visit: IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and the pages you viewed. This is used to understand traffic and keep the site running. We do not use it to build a profile of you.
How we use your information
- To send you the newsletter you asked for — new releases, launch dates, behind-the-scenes material, and occasional offers.
- To reply to messages you send us.
- To understand which pages people read, so we can improve the site.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. Ever. The only parties who touch your data are the service providers listed below, who process it on our behalf.
Email newsletter and consent
We only email people who have asked to hear from us. Subscribers join our list in one of these ways:
- Submitting an opt-in form on this website.
- Signing up through a landing page or launch-notification form we operate.
- Subscribing through The Thriller Zone podcast or its associated pages.
We do not purchase, rent, scrape, or otherwise acquire email addresses from third parties. If you're on our list, it's because you put yourself there.
Unsubscribing. Every email we send contains an unsubscribe link in the footer. One click removes you, permanently, with no follow-up and no questions. You can also email us directly and we'll remove you by hand.
Service providers
We use a small number of third-party services to run this site and its mailing list. Each is bound by its own privacy policy and processes data on our behalf:
- Kit (ConvertKit) — email list management and delivery.
- Netlify — website hosting and contact form handling.
- iCloud Mail (Apple) — our email inbox.
Cookies
This site uses minimal cookies — the kind needed to make pages work correctly and to remember basic preferences. We do not run advertising trackers or third-party ad networks on this site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.
Links to other sites
Book pages link out to retailers such as Amazon, Audible, and other booksellers. Once you click through, you're on their site and their privacy policy applies, not ours. We have no control over how they collect or use your data.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete your information from our records.
- Stop receiving email from us.
Email us and we'll take care of it. We won't discriminate against you for making a request.
California residents
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and to opt out of its sale. We don't sell personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of — but the rights to know and to delete are yours, and the email above is how you exercise them.
EU and UK residents
Under the GDPR, our legal basis for sending you marketing email is your consent, which you gave when you subscribed and can withdraw at any time. You also have the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
How long we keep your information
We keep subscriber information for as long as you remain on the list. If you unsubscribe, we retain a minimal record of your email address for the sole purpose of making sure we don't accidentally email you again. Contact-form messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your inquiry.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us their information, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
Our site is served over HTTPS, and our service providers maintain industry-standard safeguards. That said, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes affecting how we use your information will be announced to subscribers by email.
